Since its founding in 1946, the MS Society has funded more than a billion dollars in important medical research. This research is dedicated to fighting MS itself, as well as its devastating effects.
In March 2023, the MS Society published a synopsis of a study that it funded to help individuals with MS boost beneficial physical activity through use of a targeted fitness website, as well as video chat-based guidance and coaching. A phase three study of 318 subjects, it is based on the knowledge that exercise is a beneficial way to manage symptoms of MS.
Over a period of 6 months, researchers examined study subjects as they participated in an online program designed to increase and sustain physical activity. They compared these subjects against a control group that received general wellness education and coaching that did not encourage physical activity.
The study concluded that subjects participating in the physical activity program showed a significant increase in minutes per day of physical activity. Furthermore, subjects reported a marked decrease in feelings of fatigue.
