After obtaining her DMD from the University of Manitoba in 2004, Dr. Ghasaq Al-Bakkal began working at Belmont Dental Clinic (BelmontDentalClinic.ca) in Belmont, Ontario, Canada. When not in the office, Dr. Ghasaq Al-Bakkal supports several charitable organizations, including the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
Established in 1948, the MS Society of Canada boasts a membership of more than 17,000 people. The organization provides funds for research to discover the cause of and a cure for the disease. It also helps enhance the quality of life for individuals and families affected by MS.
In June 2016, the MS Society of Canada acknowledged Marilyn Lenzen for her numerous years of volunteering with the nonprofit. She received the regional community leader award as part of Canada’s Volunteer Awards (CVA) and selected the MS Society of Canada to receive a $5,000 grant from CVA. For more than 13 years, she has volunteered her time with the organization, helping to raise MS awareness and advocate for research investment. Her fundraising efforts helped raise millions of dollars and impacted hundreds of individuals and families. In addition, she chaired the organization’s national task force on volunteer engagement with hopes of securing a new generation of volunteers and ambassadors.
