Since earning her DMD from the University of Manitoba in 2004, Dr. Ghasaq Al-Bakkal has treated patents through London, Ontario’s Belmont Dental (online at Belmontdentalclinic.ca). Among her other volunteer activities, Dr. Ghasaq Al-Bakkal supports the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
As part of its fundamental mission to help people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and ultimately end MS forever, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) supports clinical research as one of its fundamental functions. It backed its first three research projects in 1947, just a year after its establishment.
The total research investment of the NMSS currently exceeds $1 billion, allowing the organization to recruit and train to over 1000 new MS research professionals and set new benchmarks in MS diagnosis, symptom management, clinical trial strategies, and rehabilitation research. The general research efforts of the NMSS include studies into the relationship between MS and CCSVI (chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency) and the ways in which vitamin D levels can affect MS risk and disease activity.
